Dorothy Barnes Rivers, 85, of Winchester, VA, died on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Westminster Canterbury. She was born on November 30, 1926 in Charles Town, West Virginia, daughter of the late William B. and Eva Pine Barnes. Mrs. Rivers was a 1945 graduate of Handley High School. In 1946, she married Howell E. Rivers, Jr. and moved to the Washington, D.C. area. Upon divorce, Mrs. Rivers began employment with the Fairfax County Police Department. She retired in 1985. Mrs. Rivers is survived by two daughters, Patricia Mason of Sterling, VA and Terry Rivers of Richmond, VA and four granddaughters. A graveside service will be held at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town, WV on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Lawhon presiding. Memorial donations may be made to the Fairfax Coalition of Police or to the Esther Boyd Animal Shelter, Winchester, VA.
