Stella J. Eggleton

Stella J. Eggleton, 82, of Kearneysville, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at her residence under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born Jan. 14, 1930, in Fauquier County, Va., she was the daughter of Raymond Payton and Gertrude (Carter) Payton.

Mrs. Eggleton retired after 40 years of nursing at the VA Medical Center and prior at Kings Daughter's Hospital, Martinsburg.

She was a life-long member of St. Paul Baptist Church.

Stella was a member of the Jolly 15 Club; the West Virginia Nursing Association; and AARP.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Donald Eggleton and wife, Rosa, of Martinsburg, and Clyde M. Eggleton and wife, Jeanette, of Charles Town; daughter, Karen A. Eggleton, of Coatesville, Pa.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, June Elaine Eggleton; and life-long companion, Harry David Powell.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at New Destiny Ministry Center, 437 Border Road, Kearneysville, with the Rev. Ricky Wilson and Pastor Clyde Eggleton officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
